Java Servlet FAQ

What is a request parameter?

A request parameter is a parameter passed to a servlet through a request. There are a couple of ways to pass the request parameter:
for example, to pass a parameter called "nameparam" to the servlet, the HTML would look like this:

<HTML>
<BODY>
<FORM METHOD=GET ACTION="/servlet/ServletName">
Enter your name
<INPUT TYPE=TEXT NAME="nameparam">
<P><INPUT TYPE=SUBMIT>
</BODY>
</HTML>
for example, to pass a hard-coded "John Smith" value through the "nameparam" parameter, the SSI tag would look like this:

<SERVLET CODE=ServletName>
<PARAM NAME=nameparam VALUE="John Smith">
</SERVLET>
