Mintex Pads Still Need Anti-Squeal Compound

From David Hsu:

I fitted the Mintex pads to my '99ML320 using the special MB copper antiseize on the sliders, but no anti-squeal compound. The fronts continued to howl like mad despite cleanings and repeated application of the bedding-in procedure. They were as noisy as a set of Pagid RS-44's on a Porsche.

Since I was due for a tire rotation anyway, I pulled the front pads two weekends ago, cleaned them and applied CRC Disc Brake Quiet to the backing plates, especially the outboard pad which rides with the sliding caliper. 99% of the squeal was gone immediately. I didn't treat the rears, and occasionally I can barely get a little squeak out of them.

BTW, when remounting the calipers I lubed the sliders with Thomas&Betts Kopr-Shield, which is basically the UL-listed version of Jet-Lube SS-30. It's a copper-based mil-spec, high-temp (service rated to 1800F) conductive antiseize paste, used in everything from bonding lightning suppressors to weatherproofing old British car electricals to lubing pipe threads. The tiny packets of Mercedes brake paste are a couple of bucks each for a gram or two and you really need about 3 for an ML, but a quarter-pound bottle of SS-30 runs less than $7 at an industrial supply house...enough for a lifetime of multiple purposes.
