From Andrew Jones:

I am working with a stereo shop that claims to produce only competition quality systems for Mercedes cars (and others occasionally). At this moment I have a system that has a total cost of about $15-1700 (don't know for sure. They are using my truck for a demo). This company prides itself on suttle installations. The lack of intrusion into the interior is very important. At the moment, the only indication that I had anything done is the installation of the tweeter behind the 'a-pillar' triangle. Even then the tweeter is completely behind the plastic piece. All you see from the outside is a hole in the plastic about a inch and a half diameter and speaker cloth (matching the interiors light gray) slightly protruding through the hole...-very clean. All of the rest of the equipment is well hidden out of sight.

All of the speakers were custom ordered to their specifications, there is an amp under the drivers seat, two 6" subs in the rear lift-gate (except for a little extra weight you cannot tell they are there). and the front door speakers were replaced. After all of this, the sound quality is exceptional !!! Everything blends together very well. It performs much better than expected. I can turn up the volume 3/4 of the way and be forced out of the truck but at this high a volume I have NO distortion whatsoever! The subs in the rear are simply incredible. Again, if turned up high enough it feels as though you could push the front windshield out of the truck! This is just an example of it's incredible power handling. The quality and accuracy of this system simply blows my mind (my neighbor has MB Quarts in his Blazer-no comparison. Maybe it's because of his amps or it wasn't tuned properly via the crossovers).

This was all done using the factory head unit !!, and it wasn't the Bose system. Also at this time I don't have a CD changer. I am contemplating purchasing the Eclipse 5303 and corresponding CD changer. They claim that the 5303 is the very best (short of going to McIntosh). I have a small problem with this idea only because it won't integrate well with the look of the dashboard, but I may just go for it solely for the performance gain, and I'll admit I am a gadget freak. I'd like the flip down face and everything else that goes with this deck. My cheaper option is to keep the factory look and just add the factory CD changer. It still will sound fantastic. I wish you all could hear this. I suppose when they are finished that they hope to provide an alternative to the Bose system and supply these to dealerships. I don't know of a final cost. My guess is around $1200 for speakers and amp. and a little more for the CD changer (they can easily retrofit any CD changer into the Benz to help keep cost down). This sounds like a lot BUT, many other systems including the Bose system won't hold a candle to it !!!

I don't work for this company. I am just very happy with the results so far. Later when the system is finalized I'll be able to provide you with more information.
