From Frank Kuehnl on how to make the tools from butter knives: required material: - 2 cheap butter knives - 1 dremel tool or similar grinding insturment - grinding wheel for dremel - cut-off wheel or thin grinding wheel for dremel - 1 small compass (drawing insturment) general information: The knives should be close to the correct shape, the MB radio keys are about 1-1.5" long (the part that goes into the radio). they are straight on one side and curved on the other, coming to a slightly rounded edge on the straight side. the with is lightly smaller than the two slots on the bottom of the radio and continues in a straight edge until the start of the curve. the curved side has a small notch about .75" from the tip. procedure: Grind the curved edge of the knives untill they will fit in the radio slots, do not push them in very far or they may get stuck. Set the compass to the with of the key and placeing the drawing point at the tip of the key, draw an arc an the key itself. grind the key to this line. About .75" from the tip of the key grind out a 1mmx1mm notch in the rounded side Grind a slight champher over all sharp edges. use: Push both keys into the slots, curved edges facing each other. you shoud hear a small "click" pull straight out. From H. Ali Mahan: The little tools used to remove the radio cost less than $6.00 at your MB dealer. They are the same tools used with Becker units (at least the tools I bought are made by Becker). From Gary Loes: I have discovered a simple tool for removing the radio. I use one of my wife's large bobby pins. Bend it open and insert the flat side in the slot on the radio. Insert the pin on the outside edge of the slot and then simultaneously press the pin towards the center of the radio and slide the radio out of the dash. You can easily manipulate each side of the radio independently until the entire unit slides free.
